Bring & Brag TQA Style

It must be something about paper and fabric that brings quilters and stampers together in perfect harmony. So much so that Stampin'  Up! debuted designer fabric a couple of years ago. The fabric is designed to match certain Designer Series Papers and stamp sets and is usually part of a Product Suite. Like The Summer Smooches Ensemble. The Summer Smooches Designer Series Paper,

matches the Bright Blossoms Stamp Set,

 

 

and matches the Summer Smooches Designer Fabric

So when The Quilt Asylum was having their Bring & Brag at the beginning of the month, of course I had to use Stampin' Up!'s fabric to make a card holder and stamp some beautiful notecards to tuck inside it.

I stamped six sweet cards with envelopes and put them in this cheerful fabric card holder. If you want to see instructions for making the fabric card holder you can find them here. Not only did I have something to show that I made but, I also donated it as a door prize that day. I love to give stuff away!

Chalkboard Technique Stampin' Up! Style

Making your cards and scrapbook pages look like old black chalkboards is all the rage right now in the paper crafting world. Here's my "How-To" video just for you. It's super easy and really cute!

I'm really liking the Pop Up Posies Designer Kit in the Spring Catalog. This is another style of card that was made with the kit. It kinda looks like a carnation of sorts. The kit comes complete with fabric covered brads, thick Vanilla baker's twine, Embossed Paper Tags and a stamp that says, "Just for you". When I ordered the Posies Kit, I didn't realize it came with the little stamp. When I found the stamp in my box, I assumed Stampin' Up! mistakenly put it in the box or they intentionally sent it as a little gift. Yes, Stampin' Up! occasionally gives their demonstrators little surprises like that. So I dropped them a note thanking them for the little stamp or inquiring whether I should return it as a mistake. They kindly called me back and told me that it was part of the Posies Designer Kit and it was mine to keep.

Chalkboards and Cards

Here's a fun card made in a Chalkboard Style. This is very popular in the crafting world right now and so easy to do. However, if you actually know what a chalkboard is, you instantly age yourself! Seems all the classrooms have Whiteboards or Smart Boards. The only time I see a Chalkboard is maaaaybeeee in a restaurant with the specials on it or in one of those decorating magazines where they've painted a wall with chalkboard paint so that kids can draw on it. You know what I think of when I see those magazine pictures? I think, no mom in their right mind would want that in their house! 1. It's one more thing to clean, 2. Cleaning it means spreading dust everywhere and 3. it would be a daily battle to keep "potty" words off of it! I remember when my kids (girls no less!) went through the stage of using words like b*tt, f*rt & p*op. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure they're done with that stage!? I can only imagine what they'd be like if they could write the words out for everyone to see! Yeah, I'm convinced the designers that had great idea didn't have kids.

Mini Needle Pouch

You know I like to sew right? I love to learn new techniques at the sewing machine just as much as I like learning at my stamp table (aka my dining room table). One of the projects my "stamp" group and I are working on is a Block Of the Month (BOM) from Handbehg Felts that will eventually become a wall hanging. What I really love about this BOM is that I'm learning to "illustrate" with thread and taking "creative license" is A-OK. This freedom is really good for me because I'm not good at following directions precisely which is why I can't bake worth a penny but, that's a story for another time. These are some of the blocks that I've completed so far.

 

See the black thread that is outlining the images? See how is not sewn in exact straight lines? It' kinda willy-nilly, stitched several rounds and allowed to cross in and out of the lines. I LOVE THIS! So of course I had to try it with a little stamping project. Fearing that multiple lines it might rip through cardstock I decided to try it with muslin and felt. I made this cute little needle keeper for Bring & Brag at The Quilt Asylum and I made extras to give away as a door prize and a downline prize.

I intentionally left the edges of the muslin raw so that it would fray and look vintagy. Also, when I stamped on the fabric, I heat-set with an iron just for a minute to hopefully keep it from fading over time. We'll see how that works.

Pop Up Posies Designer Kit

Love, Love, LOVE it when Stampin' Up! debuts new frilly, foofy embellishments. A most recent debut is the Pop-Up Posies Designer Kit. It comes with enough supplies to make 9 frilly flowers & tags.

If you separate the flowers into smaller quantities, (the instructions say 10 flowers per project) then you can have more flowers to add to more cards or pages. In this card, I scrunched up the flowers and sponged them with Crystal Effects and dipped them in Dazzling Diamonds. The photo doesn't do it much justice but, the flower is very vintagy looking with glitter just on the edges.

This is a fun wooden frame project that I'm hosting as a class in February. The photo is attached with a mini magnet so it can be changed out as desired. I love the gentle colors of the new More Amore DSP and how  the Two -Toned Ribbon coordinates beautifully.  The frame is actually a 2" x 6" piece of painted wood from the lumber yard. Those two sweet babies are my little girls when they were still little, If I remember correctly, they were 4 & 5 years old. Katherine in the pink coat is 15 yrs old now, about to be 16 on March 1.

And Noelle in the blue coat turned 14 yrs. old in late December and taller than her sister.

 

Petal Cone Treats

I actually planned on sitting down and blogging at least 3-4 entries but the Ravens & 49'rs played FOREVER and we had company over and I felt like it would be rude for me to retreat to my office to sit and blog. So, all the other stuff will have to wait a few days.

Valentine Soda Pop Tops
